Terms of sale and licence

Who sells
UsefulNotch is developed by UsefulNotch. Orders are handled by Polar Software Inc., acting as authorised reseller (merchant of record): it takes the payment, issues the receipt and applies VAT. The licence agreement is with UsefulNotch.
Free trial
You can use every feature for free for 14 days from the first launch, with no account and no payment details. After the trial, the expanded notch requires a licence.
Licence
Your purchase grants a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, perpetual licence to use UsefulNotch on the number of Macs of the chosen plan (Personal: 2, Family: 5). You can move it to another Mac by deactivating it in the app’s settings or in Polar’s customer portal.
What is not allowed
Reselling, transferring or distributing the licence or the app; circumventing the licence check; decompiling or modifying the app, except where the law expressly allows it.
Updates
Updates to the major version you bought (1.x) are included and arrive automatically (you can turn this off in settings). Future major versions may be offered separately.
Refunds
You can ask for a full refund within 14 days of purchase, without giving a reason, by writing to support@usefulnotch.com. Your statutory consumer rights are not affected.
System features
Some features use parts of macOS that Apple may change with updates: if one stops working we may pause it remotely until it is compatible, and we will do our best to adapt it quickly. Manual fan control changes the fan speed: macOS’s thermal protections stay active and the fans go back to automatic when the app quits.
Warranty and liability
UsefulNotch requires macOS 14 or later. The software is provided as is, to the extent permitted by law. We are not liable for indirect damages, except for wilful misconduct or gross negligence. Nothing in these terms limits your statutory rights as a consumer.
Trademarks
Apple, Mac, macOS, Apple Music and FaceTime are trademarks of Apple Inc.; Spotify, Claude, Codex, Cursor and the other product names are trademarks of their respective owners. They are named only to say which apps UsefulNotch works with; UsefulNotch is not affiliated with these companies.
Governing law
These terms are governed by Italian law. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws and the courts of your country of residence.
