Before you write

No music: System Settings, Privacy & Security, Automation: allow UsefulNotch to control Music and Spotify.
No notifications: Turn them on in UsefulNotch settings and grant Accessibility.
Weather not updating: Grant Location or pick a city in settings.
Does not open on hover: Check “Open on hover” and the delay in the general settings.
The key does not activate: Copy all of it from Polar’s e-mail. If it is already active on the maximum number of Macs, deactivate it on another Mac (Settings › About) or in Polar’s customer portal.
After a macOS update: If a feature stops working, we pause it remotely until it is compatible, and an app update brings it back. Check Settings › About › Check now.

Questions

Does it work on my Mac without a notch?

Yes. On Macs without a notch and on external displays UsefulNotch shows a fake notch in the menu bar or a floating island, your choice.

Which macOS do I need?

macOS 14 Sonoma or later, on Apple Silicon or Intel Macs. Real Liquid Glass needs macOS 26.

Is there a free trial?

Yes: 14 days with every feature, no account and no card. After that the expanded notch asks for a licence; the compact activities keep working.

Is it a subscription?

No. You pay once and the licence is yours. All version 1 updates are included and arrive on their own.

How many Macs can I use it on?

Personal: 2 Macs. Family: up to 5. To move the licence to another Mac, deactivate it in Settings › About.

Which music apps does it support?

Apple Music and Spotify directly, and every app that uses macOS Now Playing: YouTube Music, Tidal, Amazon Music, Safari, Chrome, Arc, Podcasts, VLC and more.

Does my data go anywhere?

No. There is no account and no analytics. The network is used for the weather (approximate location or city, to Apple), song artwork, the licence check and updates. The details are on the Privacy page.

Why is it not on the Mac App Store?

To stay still like a real notch when you switch Desktops and to read what plays in every app, UsefulNotch uses macOS features that App Store apps cannot use.

Can I get a refund?

Yes, within 14 days of purchase, no questions asked.
